Five misconceptions used to justify Calvinism a response to Robin Schumache "The top five misconceptions of Calvinism"

 "At the time, that framework seemed logical to me. But when I started my Ph.D. studies, I chose as the focus of my dissertation the apologetics of the Apostle Paul. This topic forced me to do something I had never done in my Christian life up to that point: seriously study the doctrines of grace."
   Personally I started studying the doctrines of dort about 1999 in bible college and have had a host of 
Calvinist be my professor, teachers, ministers, friends, family etc. etc etc. I am here 22 years later with 2 degrees and mind you, passing grades on the subject under Calvinist teachers. In fact one professor produced a graph showing that I and his other students were 16 generations removed from.

Who says all we can gather is that your previous Arminianism failed you. I am pretty much convinced you never studied my theology "Davidic Dispensationalism". 
In my experience, Calvinist do not practice what they preach in regards to labeling or misunderstanding their opponents. It is common for the Calvinist to have a list of heresies to accuse their opponents of until they submit to their dominance.



Total Depravity
Fact: Calvinism acknowledges that all human beings make various choices in life. However, when it comes to making a decision for God, reformed theology affirms that no one seeks God or receives Christ on their own without being spiritually awakened by God and enabled to do so. It is no understatement to say that once a person fully understands the doctrine of total depravity, all other points in Calvinism are easy to accept. Get this teaching wrong, and you have a theological mess on your hands.

Do people make choices? Of course, each and every day, and on many different levels. But when it comes to salvation in Christ, the Bible is clear that each person is born in sin (Psalm 51:5), spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1), and morally incapable of coming to Christ by themselves (1 Corinthians 2:14; Romans 8:6-7).

Jesus made the explicit statement, "No one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father" (John 6:65), which clearly showcases the inability of anyone to freely choose Christ unless granted by the Father (see also John 6:44). Once an unbeliever is spiritually called out of their darkness by God (2 Timothy 1:8-9) and their eyes are opened (John 9:39), only then can they willingly receive Jesus as Savior."

Ok, let's look at the premise "

Exodus 10:
And the Lord said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew these my signs before him:"
   So since both hearts are hardened then according to Calvinistic theory, no one is going to return or follow God, after their hearts are hardened.
Exodus 10:7
And Pharaoh's servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?"
     The servants obviously unregenerate have made the decision to encourage and reason with Pharoah to submit to the Lord.

 Jonah 3: 
And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. 7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: "

Jonah 4:11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?"
   The Ninevites were ignorant.  They did not know to pray directly to Jehovah, nor did they no the proper way to seek the Lord as animals were never commanded by God to fast especially from water. however they sought after God and did what they could to please him.  God responded to them.

Cornelius
Acts 10:
A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God."
 Calvinism would assume this was his regeneration. However....
Acts 10:
42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost."
 Cornelius had sought after God before he had received the Holy Spirit.

"the Bible is clear that each person is born in sin (Psalm 51:5), spiritually dead (Ephesians 2:1), and morally incapable of coming to Christ by themselves (1 Corinthians 2:14; Romans 8:6-7)."

 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me."  Though I have the same conclusion this is not a clear text it is not declaring itself to be universal. However, this does point to a doctrine taught in Reform theology that is unbiblical.
"11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me."
David being an old testament character did not have Spirit indwelling him like us in the New Covenant"
Hebrews 11:
39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect."
john 7:39 
(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)"
So if David was not "born again" then he could not freely do good right?
Psalm 54:6 
I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O Lord; for it is good."
What about spiritual death?
It is inevitable that the spirit dies but our death in the spirit is not upon our creation.
Romans 7:
But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. 9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.10And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death."
  How could Paul be alive if he was spiritually dead?  Did the Law physically kill him and he resurrected to write this epistle? Know when he understood the law he was spiritually dead.
Ephesians 2:
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:"
 we were dead, physically dead? No, spiritually dead. What was the cause of our spiritual death? Adam's curse? No, the text says our trespasses and sins.  The text says we "walked according to the course of this world" the spirit is dead by condemnation otherwise we would not be animated.
Zechariah 12:
1 The burden of the word of the Lord for Israel, saith the Lord, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him."
God creates the spirit within us.  The spirit is a component of life, not death.
Ecclesiastes 7:
29 Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions."




Misconception: The doctrine that says God chooses who will be saved is incredibly unfair.

👉🏻Fact: Reformed theology upholds that no one deserves salvation and that God displays incredible mercy in saving those He chooses.

Arthur Pink began one message in Australia many years ago by saying, "I am going to speak tonight on one of the most hated doctrines of the Bible, namely, that of God's sovereign election" [. Arthur Pink, The Doctrine of Election (Granbury, TX: PBM Desktop Publications, 2005), Pg. 4.

By far, the most uttered complaint against election is that it's not fair. And yet, every Christian acknowledges they don't deserve God's mercy and His salvation that it is indeed "fair" if God chose to judge all sinners as being unworthy of spending eternal life with Him.

That being the case, why is it considered repugnant if God chooses to show mercy to some and allows His justice to fall on others who willingly continue in their sin? Would a governor be considered an ogre and unfair simply because he or she decided to grant amnesty to one criminal while others are left to carry out their proper sentence? Those who reject election believe in choice, but they don't want God to choose; they want humanity to choose instead. This seems more fair and just to them.

However, Paul anticipated this response from the audience that received his letter to the Romans. In chapter 9, after carefully laying out the doctrine of election, Paul specifically and proactively answers the charge of unfairness with God and clearly spells out that salvation has nothing to do with our choice but is rather His choice alone:

"What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's part? By no means! For he says to Moses, 'I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.' So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy." (Romans 9:14-16)
Such a statement from the Apostle Paul makes absolutely no sense if he believed that we are the ultimate decision-makers where salvation is concerned not God. From a human standpoint, what would be unfair about that?

Nottice "I am going to speak tonight on one of the most hated doctrines of the Bible, namely, that of God's sovereign election" Is this Really in the Bible?
The word "Sovereign" is not a biblical Word it is not in the biblical languages or the kjv or even the Geneva Bible! If the adjective is synthetic, could not the definition used for the Election/chosen also be synthetic?
Exodus 14:7 And he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, and captains over every one of them.

Did God choose to save the chariots of Egypt from before the foundation of the earth? only if that means leaving them wrecked in the Red Sea!!

Isaiah 42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.:"
Did God decide to Save Jesus from his future sins?  Or was he elected or chosen to be the messiah?
Election is a doctrine of functionality in the kingdom instead of soteriology.

Romans 9:25 As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved."   
God is calling people who were not chosen!
Because the Jews were chosen for a Job, but all people can be saved. 


Misconception: Only Calvinism limits the atonement of Christ on the cross.

👉🏻Fact: Outside of Universalists, every Christian believes in limited atonement.

Unless you're a Universalist and believe that everyone will eventually be saved, then you believe that the atonement of Christ is limited and that it doesn't automatically save all of humanity.

How is the atonement limited? It is limited to those who believe (John 3:16).

But how does a person come to believe? This is where we must boomerang back up to the "T" and "U" of Calvinism's T.U.L.I.P. and first understand how God saves those He chooses.

As to who truly limits Christ's sacrifice on the cross, reformed pastor Charles Spurgeon offers these helpful words in this semi-lengthy but helpful quote:

"We are often told that we limit the atonement of Christ. Because we say that Christ has not made a satisfaction for all men or all men would be saved. Now our reply to this is on the other hand our opponents limit it, we do not. The Arminians say Christ died for all men. Ask them what they mean by that. Did Christ die to secure the salvation of all men? They say no, certainly not. We ask them the next question: Did Christ die to secure the salvation of any one person in particular? They say no. They're obliged to say that if they're consistent. They say, no, Christ has died that any man may be saved if ... and then follow certain conditions of salvation...

"Now, who is it that limits of the death of Christ? Why, you you say that Christ did not die so as to infallibly secure the salvation of anybody. We beg your pardon. When you say we limit Christ's death we say no, my dear sir, it is you that do that. We say that Christ so died that He infallibly secured the salvation of a multitude that no man can number who through Christ's death not only may be saved but will be saved and cannot by any possibility run the hazard of being anything but saved. You are welcome to your atonement; you may keep it. We will never renounce ours for the sake of it." (Particular Redemption" by Charles Spurgeon.)

Notice: "How is the atonement limited? It is limited to those who believe (John 3:16)."
False: 2 Peter 2:But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction."
The false prophets were not saved but their sins were atoned for.
Even Judas part took in the Lord's Supper symbolic of his atonement.
john 12:2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;"

False: this is where Calvinism become a competitor with the gospel. Belief is not cause by a random lottery.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith."
Romans 10:6:
But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"
This calvinist preaches an impotent gospel with no power to save.

On spurgeon.... First of all it has become a sinful habit to raise this man's words up like popery or worse an extrabiblical prophet.  Spurgeon was simply a pastor with a lot of success.
The Apostle Peter says 1 Peter 5:
1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:"
Peter was glad to be just another minister and did not call himself pope.
 That being said Spurgeon was more in favor of general atonement when preaching 1timothy 2:3-4

 It is quite certain that when we read that God will have all men to be saved it does not mean that he wills it with the force of a decree or a divine purpose, for, if he did, then all men would be saved. He willed to make the world, and the world was made: he does not so will the salvation of all men, for we know that all men will not be saved. Terrible as the truth is, yet is it certain from holy writ that there are men who, in consequence of their sin and their rejection of the Savior, will go away into everlasting punishment, where shall be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. There will at the last be goats upon the left hand as well as sheep on the right, tares to be burned as well as wheat to be garnered, chaff to be blown away as well as corn to be preserved. There will be a dreadful hell as well as a glorious heaven, and there is no decree to the contrary.

     What then? Shall we try to put another meaning into the text than that which it fairly bears? I trow not. You must, most of you, be acquainted with the general method in which our older Calvinistic friends deal with this text. "All men," say they,—"that is, some men": as if the Holy Ghost could not have said "some men" if he had meant some men. "All men," say they; "that is, some of all sorts of men": as if the Lord could not have said "all sorts of men" if he had meant that. The Holy Ghost by the apostle has written "all men," and unquestionably he means all men. The scripture gives us the final word.
1timothy 4:10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe. 11These things command and teach."



Misconception: God drags people kicking and screaming against their will into His kingdom.

👉🏻Fact: Reform theology teaches that God lovingly overcomes the natural rebellion in the sinner's heart so that they may accept His gift of salvation.

J.I. Packer sums up this doctrine in a very succinct manner when he says, "Grace proves irresistible just because it destroys the disposition to resist" (J.I. Packer, introduction to John Owen's The Death of Death in the Death of Christ (Carlisle, PA: The Banner of Truth Trust, 2007), Pg. 8.)

Acts 16:13-14 showcases this efficacious call of God in action: "And on the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to a riverside, where we were supposing that there would be a place of prayer; and we sat down and began speaking to the women who had assembled. A woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul."

Another point worth making is that this call is not given to everyone. This fact is evident in Paul's first letter to the Corinthians: "But we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God" (1 Corinthians 1:23-24).

Notice the same two groups are preached to (Jews and Gentiles) and yet only those called by God (also Jews and Gentiles) are saved by His grace. These are the ones who receive God's efficacious call (i.e. His irresistible grace).


Now you may notice the term efficacious or effectual call.  Many contemporary Calvinists teach instead that people are in fact born again prior to faith, But Calvin himself did not teach this.

section 9 "In one word, then, by repentance I understand regeneration, the only aim of which is to form anew the image of God, which was sullied, and all but effaced by the transgression of Adam."
section 1 "The shortest transition, however, will be from faith to repentance; for repentance being properly understood, it will better appear how a man is justified freely by faith alone, and yet that holiness of life, real holiness, as it is called, is inseparable from the free imputation of Christ righteousness.  That repentance not only follows faith, but is produced by it ought to be without controversy." Now as Calvin defined repentance to be the timing of regeneration, we see that calvin taught that faith is prior to regeneration. Repentance is then the natural product of justification and not the pre-requisite. "... it is certain, that no man can embrace the grace of the gospel without betaking himself from the errors of his former life into the right path and making it his whole study to practice repentance."
section 5 "For in comprehending Faith under repentance, they are at variance with what Paul says in the acts, as to his 'testifying both to the Jews and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ"(acts xx.21).  Here he mentions faith and repentance as two different things.  What then? Can true repentance exist without faith? by no means  But although they cannot be separated, they ought to be distinguished.  As there is no faith without hope, and yet faith and hope are different, so repentance and faith, though consistently linked together, are only to be united, not confounded.""

The Draw is for all.

john 12:32  And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me."
Acts 17:
26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring."
2 Peter 3:
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."
Revelation 22:
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely."
We can reject it.
Matthew 23:
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!"
John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil."
Act 7:51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye."
Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,"
2 corinthians 6:We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain. 2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)"
Hebrews 10:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

We can accept it.
john
1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"

Ephesians 1:
 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory."

Hebrews 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world."

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.


Misconception: A person remains saved no matter how they live their life.

👉🏻Fact: Calvinism teaches that a professing Christian with no change in behavior and no movement toward sanctification proves that they were never saved to begin with.

Reformed scholar and pastor John Piper tells the story of a woman who heard a message he delivered on the perseverance of the saints (which says a born again Christian can never lose their salvation, but will persevere to the end). She came to him and stated that she was in an adulterous affair, but because she was saved, she intended to continue in her affair without any worry about losing her salvation.

Piper's reply to her was direct and rare in our current sugar-coated, seeker-friendly church environment: "God will damn you to Hell if you continue in your sin." (Perseverance of the Saints" by John Piper, TULIP part 8.)

In making that statement, Piper was simply affirming the Bible's teaching that the fruit of the tree identifies the type of tree (Matthew 12:33). In no way does Calvinism teach that a person born again may continue in their rebellion, sin against God, and see eternal life with the Creator.

Instead, reformed theology upholds just the opposite: that a true Christian will manifest holy affections that prove their salvation, although they will always struggle with the sin nature that they have (see Romans 7). Here we see this minister using John Piper as a representative of his views. I have refuted the legalism taught by Piper.

Honestly Traditional Baptist as well as traditional Presbyterians do not hold to the works based views of Piper. Yet the presentation here is more brutally legalistic than the universal demeaner of Piper.

His example of Piper talking to an unrepentant Aduloterous women is extreme to be fair.  Scripturallly the scriptures are indeed clear that God is intolerant of sin.  However there are other ways of disciplining Believer than simply over turning the saving work of Christ.

2 Corinthians 6:9
As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;"
luke 19:22 
And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:
1 john 5:
16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. 17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death."

There does exist carnal or immature Christians
1 cor. 3:1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.2I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.3For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

Hebrews 5:

Consistently salvation is free of works
Ephesians 2:
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.""
Notice we were "Dead in sins"  Not "sin" which refers to nature. but sins as in the acts.  But even though we were law breakers. 1 john 3:Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.""

Manner of behaving, whether good or bad; conduct; manners; carriage of one's self, with respect to propriety, or morals; deportment. It expresses external appearance or action; sometimes in a particular character; more generally in the common duties of life; as, our future destiny depends on our behavior in this life. It may express correct or good manners, but I doubt whether it ever expresses the idea of elegance of manners, without another word to qualify it.

To be upon one's behavior is to be in a state of trial, in which something important depends on propriety of conduct. The modern phrase is, to be or to be put, upon one's good behavior" 1828 webster's dictionary"
  It is clear behavior is a work and thus this is works based salvation!!

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;6Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;7That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.8This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men."

Romans 3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.27Where is boasting then? Romans 4:2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.3 For what saith the scripture? We have security in our salvation.
John 10: 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.30 I and my Father are one."

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.30  Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. 31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:"

1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, 5Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."

Typically, Calvinist have tended to agree with my arguments and the doctrine called eternal security.  The problems if we go backwards in time the earliest believers in monergism were Roman catholic and had works in their understanding of salvation.  Calvinism has recovered the Romanists roots leading to what the early Calvinists would consider heresy.
