"Karl Popper and “pseudo sciences”
Popper has subjected the scientific method to a critical examination and has come to some remarkable conclusions. His interest in this subject stems from the time when, as a committed Communist for a short period, he was shocked when some colleagues were killed in a clash with the police. He thereupon subjected the Marxist claim to be based on the “scientific laws of historical social development”. After several years of study, he saw clearly how false this claim was; its use of the label ‘scientific’ (and its implication of inevitable truth) was deceptive in the extreme. As the Marxist theory is founded upon the progress’ of evolution, he showed that this also was unscientific. This led him to examine the whole question of what constitutes a true science and what is only a pseudo-science? Summarising Popper’s view briefly, a true science is one in which experiments can be devised which could refute the theory under consideration. In a pseudo-science, no experiment which would finally refute a theory can be made (usually because some other explanation for non-compatible results can be found). For example, a theory regarding the relationship between heat and temperature can be tested in any laboratory at any time and can therefore be classed as scientific. On the other hand, evolution has only taken place once in the past and therefore no ‘experiment’ of evolution can be carried out. All that can be done is to study such subjects as the fossils in the rocks and offer an interpretation. Even if experiments on animals were to show that completely new species could be made (which they have not yet achieved), this would only indicate that evolution could have occurred, not that it had. Thus, by Popper’s definition, evolution certainly cannot be classed as a true scientific theory" Malcom Bowden "The rise of the evolution fraud" ch. 131 "Is evolution scientific? pg. 151

Popper had discovered that just because something like Marxism or evolution is labeled science, does not mean it actually IS Science.
